Challenge
Jumbo Entry Glass with Minimal Structural Expression
The entry sequence required jumbo laminated glass panels with minimal visible support and a highly refined structural expression. The design called for expansive glass while concealing structural elements, maintaining maximum transparency without compromising performance.
Project
Trousdale Residence | Challenge Five

Process
01
Developed a custom dummy mullion to maintain consistent vertical sightlines and visual symmetry across the entry façade. While non-structural, the mullion preserves the clean architectural rhythm and minimalist aesthetic.

02
Engineered oversized entry glazing utilizing a laminated glass assembly composed of 3 plies of 10 mm glass with 1.52 mm SentryGlas® interlayers, providing the strength and stiffness required for large-format applications.
03
Designed a three-sided supported glazing system to provide the structural support required for the jumbo laminated glass panels while maintaining clean edges and maximizing transparency throughout the entry.
Result
The completed entry features oversized laminated glass panels with minimal visible structure and uninterrupted sightlines. By combining 3-ply laminated glass with 1.52 mm SentryGlas® interlayers, a custom aesthetic dummy mullion, and a structurally efficient three-sided support system, the façade achieves a monolithic glass appearance while meeting the project's structural and performance requirements.
