Challenge

Large Operable Openings with Zero Sightline Requirement

The project required oversized casement windows up to 6.5 feet tall, with a strict requirement for zero sightline aesthetics to maintain facade purity without compromising air or water penetration.

Project

1640 14th Street | Challenge Three

Process

We integrated custom operable systems into the curtain wall design:

01

Developed a zero sightline casement configuration aligned with the surrounding structurally glazed system.

02

Engineered framing and hardware coordination to conceal operable components within the facade geometry.

03

Coordinated operable units early through design assist and shop drawings, ensuring precise integration with adjacent curtain wall modules.

Result

Large-scale operable windows were seamlessly integrated into the facade, maintaining a continuous, uninterrupted visual plane while delivering full functionality at unusually large dimensions.
