Challenge
Extreme Spans with Wind and Seismic Movement
The curtain wall required spans up to 20 feet, creating high deflection risk under wind loads while also needing to accommodate seismic movement without compromising facade alignment or performance.
Project
1640 14th Street challenge 1

Process
01
We developed a T-curtain wall system through early design assist, engineering the system in-house to handle both lateral and vertical forces.
02
Steel mullions were internally reinforced with steel bars to increase structural capacity.

03
Slotted anchors at the head condition were integrated to allow controlled seismic movement while maintaining alignment and load transfer.
04
System behavior was modeled and coordinated during approved development, ensuring performance targets were met before fabrication.
Result
A long-span curtain wall system was successfully delivered with stable performance under wind and seismic conditions, maintaining tight tolerances and preserving the architectural intent of a clean, uninterrupted facade.
